Cortober residents lodge opposition to Lidl’s Carrick relocation plans

Cortober Residents’ Association is strongly objecting to the Lidl store planned for the Leitrim side of Carrick-on-Shannon.
It claims the loss of the supermarket in its area would be detrimental to the Roscommon side of the town.

The supermarket giant wants to move from its current location at Cortober to Attyrory and Attifinlay, near rivals Tesco and Aldi.

Planning permission was recently given for the existing store to be turned into a car sales showroom and gym.
An application has been lodged for a new store to be developed on the Dublin Road.

However, Cortober Residents’ Association claims the loss of the current one in their area would be an enormous blow.

Its chairperson, Chrissy Kelly, explains why it’s lodging an objection to it.

Lidl claims it’s seeking to develop a state-of-the-art store at Attifinlay and is working with architects and planners to ensure our development will contribute positively to the area.
Leitrim County Council is due to make a decision on the application by July 13th, with submissions open to the public until June 22nd.
