The Department of Justice has become aware that some members of the public have received scam phone calls purporting to be an official from our Department. The caller is making false claims in relation to arrest warrants, money laundering or other criminal activities.
The person is then informed that their PPS number has been linked with suspicious activity and are asked to contact an agent to provide further details.
According to the Independent.ie – 25-year-old woman based in Dublin lost โฌ5,000 when she was called by what she thought was a government department who held her on the phone for four hours.
Gardaรญ repeated their advice to never share personal information data with such callers or with people who make contact by text. Be sure to share this news with your friends and family
